Deep/closed bite

Deep/closed occlusion

If the vertical overbite of the front teeth exceeds the value of 2 to 3 mm, a deep occlusion applies. This is usually accompanied by a clear difference in height between the front and side teeth. The lower incisors sometimes bite into the palatal gingiva of the upper jaw. A deep occlusion with gingival contact and retroinclination of the upper incisors is called a closed occlusion.
